September 4th 2006 01:23
This week's game sales in Japan:
1.) Final Fantasy III (NDS, Square Enix) - 503,051 | NEW
2.) NEW Super Mario Bros. (NDS, Nintendo)- 65,556 | 2,901,264
3.) Rune Factory (NDS, Marvelous Interactive) - 42,210 | NEW
4.) Brain Training 2 (NDS, Nintendo) - 41,784 | 3,073,195
5.) Cooking Navi (NDS, Nintendo) - 37,326 | 384,045
6.) Tamagotchi 2 (NDS, Bandai Namco) - 30,504 | 430,934
7.) Mario Basketball 3-on-3 (NDS, Square Enix) - 30,355 | 233,762
8.) Animal Crossing Wild World (NDS, Nintendo) - 30,023 | 3,149,130
9.) Brain Training (NDS, Nintendo) - 22,866 | 2,736,150
10.) English Training (NDS, Nintendo) - 17,465 | 1,401,669
That's right, 10 out of 10 are DS titles. And what's possibly more amazing is that FF III, in it's first week of release, has sold over half a million copies. In one week. It's interesting to note that the DS is the first platform to monopolise the Top 10 - not even the Playstation 2, at the top of it's game (ha ha), achieved that.
And of course, as usual, the DS overwhelmingly outsold the PSP in Japan this week - at 163000 sales to the PSP's 30000. Business as usual
This giant sales number might have something to do with the release of the Black DS Lite, though...
"With the Black coloured DS lites going on sale in Japan, the hardware has, predictably, taken the region by storm with incredible queues and demand for a new coloured Nintendo portable.
Japanese publication Famitsu were eagerly on the scene to capture some stills of the incredibly long lines of all ages, parents, adults, young children and dedicated fans, all ready for some dual screen action, some of which stretching to over 500 punters. Words simply don’t do the situation justice…"
Less than three weeks until the Onyx Black DS Lite is on sale in Australia, too.
And oh, look at this, by the way. The "Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Special Edition DS Lite". Certainly a mouthful, but it's pretty:
