Wii console, controller & bundle pricing, Aussie-Nintendo news roundup
October 5th 2006 06:41
A cross section of the latest and greatest bits of news, all courtesy of the wonderful Aussie-Nintendo.com:
Nintendo will offer a wired Ethernet kit for the Wii, if you don't have access to wireless LAN or 'net.
Legacy Wii games (that is, SNES, '64, etc) will be region-coded as well!
A short report on the Wii's recent Sydney mass-media press event...
And, the latest set of Wii pricing for Australia:
Australian Prices : UPDATED
* $399.95 : Wii Console
* $69.95 : Wii-mote
* $79.95 : Wii Play Games Pack {Bundled with an extra Wii-mote}
Wii Play Games Pack : A compilation of at least nine smaller games including a Duck Hunt-esque Target Shooting title, Pool, Ping Pong, Air Hockey, the Remote Pointer Demo, a Quiz Matching Game and a Fishing game
* $29.95 : Classic Controller
* $29.95 : Nunchuk Style
* 2000 Wii Points card (Can be acquired online or at any retaliers Ausralia wide for $29.95)
500 Wii points {$7.50}
* Commodore 64, Nintendo.
800 Wii points {$12}
* MSX arcade system, Sega Mega Drive, Super Nintendo, Turbo Grafx16.
1,000 Wii points {$15}
* Nintendo 64.
We've finally got some definitive pricing on the controllers, which is nothing but positive. Yes, if you buy an extra Wiimote and an extra Nunchuck attachment, it'll cost you $100. The Wii Play bundle looks interesting, though, and it only costs $10 more than a standard Wiimote. The classic controller is a great pricepoint at $30, considering it's pretty good lookin' and almost as versatile as a GC one. The Wii points pricing is pretty expensive, though. $12 for that long-lost copy of Super Mario? It is cheaper than getting it second-hand from a store, though.

The Wii Play pack does look tempting, since I was going to get an extra controller anyway
